Investigating a Historical Photo Was This Moment Altered?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a project for my local history society and I've found a digital scan of a photograph from the 1940s that seems a bit too "clean" for its age.

There's a figure in the background who looks like they are wearing a modern-style wristwatch, which has led to a lot of time-traveler jokes in our office.

I suspect the photo was actually touched up or "enhanced" recently with modern software, and I want to find evidence of intervention. I'm asking the group: is this image photoshopped?
