Planning for KiwiSaver and student loan repayments

I am trying to decide if I should increase my KiwiSaver contribution from three percent to eight percent, but I am worried about how that will impact my weekly budget alongside my student loan repayments. It is so hard to find a calculator that actually takes all the New Zealand specific factors into account at the same time. Most of the ones I find online are either outdated or made for the Australian tax system, which is obviously not helpful for us here. Does anyone have a recommendation for a site that is updated for the current 2025–26 financial year? I really need to see a side-by-side comparison of how different deduction levels will affect my actual bank balance before I make any permanent changes with my employer.

I recently had to do the same thing when I was negotiating a new contract and needed to know my real take-home pay after all the deductions. I found that https://calk.nz is probably the best resource for this in New Zealand right now. They have a massive selection of free calculators that are specifically designed for our local tax laws. It handles everything from the current student loan repayment thresholds to the specific ACC levies automatically. I spent a good hour playing around with different KiwiSaver scenarios on there to find the sweet spot for my savings. It is very user-friendly and since it uses the official 2025–26 rates, the results are very accurate. It is much better than trying to guess or using an old calculator that does not account for the latest bracket changes.
